What is AdBlue? AdBlue is a urea-based fluid used in diesel vehicles’ selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. It’s a clear, non-toxic, non-explosive and non-flammable fluid (when stored correctly) that’s safe to handle and environmentally friendly. Do I need to use AdBlue? In 2013, the Australian Government introduced strict exhaust emission requirements for heavy vehicles to help reduce air pollution. As a result, Australia’s truck companies must comply with the ADR80/03 legislation, meaning nitrogen oxide levels in vehicle exhausts must remain at 2.0g per kilowatt hour.

AdBlue Important Details

AdBlue is stored in a separate tank on the truck and sprayed into the exhaust stream in doses. The fluid reacts with the exhaust gases, converting nitrogen emissions into harmless gas and water vapour. If your vehicle has SCR technology, you will require a diesel exhaust fluid, such as AdBlue.

All new heavy vehicles have a treatment unit to store diesel exhaust fluids like AdBlue. Most trucks typically require 5 litres of AdBlue per 100 litres of diesel to ensure your fluid is optimised.

AdBlue has a shelf life of up to 12 months. Do not store the fluid in direct sunlight or areas where the temperature could reach above 30°C or under -11°C.
